Toward a national environmental evaluation system in Haiti
Haitian daily Le National reported on the World Environment Day conference organized by GISD and Stratcom Global Development, and on the synthesis GISD presented at the close of the debate.
Source: Le National, no. 2171, June 7–9, 2025, p. 14 (Société).
Key takeaways
- Main obstacles to a national evaluation system: no legal framework, fragmented data and weak institutional capacity.
- Opportunities: key institutions are already in place (MPCE, Ministry of the Environment, IHSI, CNIGS), interest in evidence-based governance is growing, and regional dynamics favor exchange.
- Integrating evaluation into environmental planning improves transparency, coherence and the effectiveness of public policies.
See all 6 takeaways
- Digital tools and data science can make environmental monitoring more reliable and accessible.
- Rigorous, well-planned data collection is the basis of usable evaluation evidence.
- Participants suggested a gradual, region-by-region approach and a stronger role for civil society in education, citizen oversight and advocacy.
